Two Thai nationals were nabbed by police on charges of selling and distributing amphetamines, the Criminal Investigation Bureau reported yesterday. Acting on a tip-off, bureau investigators on Thursday night raided an apartment in Chungli, Taoyuan County, rented by Thasonuam Somjit, arresting Somjit and an alleged accomplice, Anurak Sangian, together with over 3,000 amphetamine capsules. Investigators say Somjit, who is married to a ROC citizen, has operated a drug trafficking and distribution ring, mainly smuggling amphetamines from Thailand and repacking the drugs into red capsules that look exactly like a cold medicine widely used by Thais. Investigators allege Somjit and his accomplices sold the drugs at NT$200-NT$400 per capsule, mainly to Thai laborers. Investigators alleged the gang also used Thai foreign laborers to distribute the drugs. In addition, the investigators said Somjit collaborated with Taiwanese underground figures to host an illegal gambling den.
