President Chen Shui-bian (陳水扁) thanked the winners of the 12th distinguished medical devotion awards Friday for their contributions to Taiwan. The president said that their winning deeds reflect the true "Taiwan spirit," which he described as the spirit of not caring about fame and profit but unselfish contribution to benefit others. "This spirit provides the momentum behind Taiwan's continuous progress," Chen added. He also expressed his highest respect and regards to the winners, especially two who hail from other countries but who have rooted themselves in Taiwan, for their years of service to the Taiwan people.
