A Thai worker was sentenced to 15 years in prison yesterday for killing a Taiwanese man at a restaurant in Tachia in Taichung County last November. The Taichung District Court also said in its ruling that Seekaew Daj Chai should be repatriated after serving his time. According to the court's findings, Chai, a legally hired laboror at a metal forging company in Tachia, got into an argument with the victim, who has not been identified. The confrontation resulted in a fist-fight after which Chai threw a knife at the man. The knife pierced the man's chest and he later died of blood loss. Chai insisted he didn't intend to kill Hsieh and was not aware the knife had struck him. He was convicted based on the testimony of witnesses and Chai's depositions. Chai may appeal to the Taiwan High Court.
