The Guatemalan Congress has adopted a resolution to support Taiwan's efforts to join international organizations, including the UN, according to a news report from Guatemala. The Diario de Centroamerica daily reported that the Guatemalan Congress has asked the executive branch to take a variety of actions to support Taiwan's bids to join the UN, the WHO and other international organizations. The report said that the Guatemalan Congress has handed the resolution to other Central American nations in the hope that they will take concerted action to support Taiwan. The resolution said that it was unreasonable to keep Taiwan out of the UN and the WHO, adding that Taiwan's experience and preparedness in the fields of public health and disease prevention can provide underdeveloped countries with much-needed assistance.
