Wondering where to check out a wide selection of digital cameras at good prices? A technology show at the Taipei World Trade Center may be a good place to hunt for bargains -- especially for digital gadgets.
"All of our products sold in the show will go for about 20 percent off," said Max Hsu, a local sales agent associated with Canon Inc.
According to Hsu, the price of the brand's best-selling digital camera, the Canon PowerShot A40, has been cut from NT$14,500 to about NT$11,600.
Competition is expected to be fierce at the show.
"We've designed a special promotion for this show and one of our premium models will be offered at up to 40 percent off," said Lu Jung-hwa (
A first-tier unit, the FujiFilm 4900Zoom, retails for NT$34,900, but is expected to sell for NT$19,900 at the exhibition.
The 16th annual Taipei Softex Show (台北春季電腦展), which starts today, also boasts a a full range of computer hardware and software.
The event is billed as a great opportunity for consumers to find bargains.
This year, about 300 companies have set up 1,300 booths, featuring software, computer peripherals, digital gadgets and virtual-reality applications.

According to Canon's Hsu, an increasing number of people are choosing digital cameras over traditional cameras.
FujiFilm's Lu said that last year he sold only about 1,500 digital cameras every month, but that figure jumped to 4,000 last month.
They all agree the show is an opportunity the companies don't want to forego.
"Based on my experience, sometimes the sales we get from a five-day show can be as high as the company's monthly sales total," Hsu said.
"Consumers come to hunt for bargains and companies use the opportunity to stimulate sales."
Companies have found it necessary now to slash prices at computer shows, he said.
Software companies will also be offering bargains.
"To encourage more people to use genuine software, we have decided to make our products more affordable by cutting prices," said Tung Ju-sheng (
Prices of software such as operating systems, multimedia programs, games and e-commerce applications will be up to 50 percent lower at the exhibition that in the stores, Tung said.
The five-day show will be open from 9am to 5pm at Taipei World Trade Center Exhibition Halls through May 15. Admission is NT$100. Free admission coupons can be downloaded at www.show.tca.org.tw.
