Hit by the recessions in the US and Japan, market shares of Taiwan-made products in the two countries have dropped in the first seven months of this year, according to government statistics.
Tallies published recently by the Cabinet-level Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS) show that the market shares of locally made products in the US and Japan fell by 0.38 percentage points and 0.32 percentage points, respectively, during the January-July period, compared with the year-earlier levels.
During the same seven-month period, the market share of Japanese goods in the US market fell from 12.05 percent to 11.17 percent, while South Korea and Singapore also saw shrinkages of 0.27 percentage points and 0.24 percentage points, respectively, according to the tallies.
Taiwan has only a 2.95 percent market share in the US, down by 0.38 percentage points from a year ago. In the Japanese market, US-made products grabbed the largest stake of 15.48 percent, ahead of mainland China.
