Executive Yuan extends subsidized home-loan program

By Joyce Huang  /  STAFF REPORTER

The Executive Yuan announced yesterday its decision to continue its real-estate market-boosting measures, saying it will appropriate another NT$200 billion for subsidized loans to be offered at an O.85 percentage point discount over current private sector mortgage rates.

In a statement released by the Executive Yuan, it said the measure would take effect from Aug. 27, adding that the maximum credit line to purchase homes located in Taipei City will be NT$2.5 million per household while that for homes purchased outside of Taipei will be NT$2 million per household with a maximum payback period of 20 years.

According to the Cabinet's assessment, the program has created NT$36.1 billion of additional consumer demand since its beginning assuming each household spent NT$300,000 of their own money.
