Kaohsiung Mayor Frank Hsieh (
Hsieh made the remarks at the opening ceremony of the eighth annual meeting of the Council of Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce in Asia (亞洲台灣商會聯合總會), which will run through tomorrow in Kaohsiung, the first time the meeting has been held in the southern city.
The topic of the annual meeting is "pooling overseas Taiwanese businessmen's forces to invest in Taiwan," with the ultimate goal of promoting the development of Taiwan's industries and economy, said the organizers of the event.
Quoting a Chinese proverb that says fallen leaves return to their roots, Hsieh claimed that Taiwanese businessmen will "lack a sense of substance" if their businesses do not strike roots in Taiwan.
