Yet an executive at the industry who asked to remain anonymous predicted the earthquake would result in an aggregate loss of NT$500 million in the production value of a given to one-day operation suspension.
"According to the 1998 Industrial Technology White Paper, the nation's production value of the car manufacturing industry was NT$180 billion in 1998. If the figure is divided by 365 days, the production value generated by the industry a day was NT$500 million.
