Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport won a total of 11 awards from UK-based consultancy firm Skytrax this year, including world’s best airport staff service and best airport staff in Asia.

Taiwan took second place in airport immigration, up from the third place last year.

It was also ranked No. 3 among the airports with passenger volume of between 30 million and 40 million per year, up from No. 4 last year.

The nation’s ranking also climbed from No. 10 last year to No. 4 this year in airport security. A similar improvement was seen in the category of baggage delivery, with the ranking rising from No. 9 last year to No. 4 this year. Taiwan’s international transit airport ranking also rose from No. 9 last year to No. 4 this year.

Skytrax ranked Taoyuan airport the ninth-best airport in Asia and No. 17 in the Top 100 airports around the world, up from No. 10 and No. 18 respectively.

In addition, the airport was ranked No. 8 for airport leisure amenities and No. 9 for airport shopping.

“The category of airport staff evaluates the service quality experienced by travelers in the airport, which is the most important part of the airport experience,” Taoyuan International Airport Co (TIAC) said in a statement, adding that the evaluations focus on service efficiency and the attitudes of service personnel at the airlines’ check-in counters, security and immigration, as well as the shopping and dining areas.

“The fact that Taoyuan airport can win these two top prizes in terms of the airport staff service shows the airport offers world-class service quality, and Taiwan’s soft power is recognized by the international community,” the airport company said.

According to the TIAC, Skytrax gathered 12.85 million questionnaires from travelers from 110 countries, covering 410 airports around the world.

The UK-based consultancy firm does not charge the airports for participating in the airport surveys, nor does the company accept sponsorships from the airports.

To participate in the survey, travelers fill in questionnaires online. As such, the awards given by Skytrax are called the “Passengers Choice Awards.”
