The hottest entertainment acts for year-end banquets, or weiya (尾牙), this year are singers Jeannie Hsieh (謝金燕) and Jam Hsiao (蕭敬騰) and the band Mayday (五月天), according to a survey of office workers conducted by the 1111 Job Bank.

As the reigning electropop diva, Hsieh maintained her hold on the charts and Youtube viewings this year with her big hit, Sister (姐姐).

She was also the No. 1 choice of the survery’s respondents, who were asked to select the performers they most wanted to see at their weiya. Respondents were allowed to make multiple choices for both female and male artists, and singers dominated the top positions.

Hseih placed first with 34.83 percent of the vote, Jolin Tsai (蔡依林) came in second with 24.38 percent and Chang Hui-mei (A-mei, 張惠妹) was third with 17.91 percent.

Hsiao was the most in demand among the men, with 37.31 percent of the vote, followed by Show Lo (羅志祥) with 26.37 percent and Jay Chou (周杰倫) with 14.43 percent.

Among group acts, Mayday came in first with 60.7 percent of the vote, followed by girl band S.H.E. with 32.84 percent.

A 1111 Job Bank spokesperson said the influence of television drama series about Chinese empresses, such as the Chinese-produced Empresses in the Palace (後宮甄嬛傳), about fights between Qing Dynasty concubines seeking to win the emperor’s favor, could be seen in the survey results. A significant portion of respondents said they would like their weiya to have an imperial court theme.

The survey gathered 1,070 valid responses and a margin of error of plus or minus 2.99 percentage points.
