The annual Taipei Dadaocheng Fireworks Festival will take place on Aug. 10 at Dadaocheng Wharf, featuring a 20-minute fireworks show and music from the Taipei Symphony Orchestra, organizers said yesterday.
The festival is inviting the orchestra to perform classical music during the fireworks show for the first time, while an electropop DJ will join the orchestra during the first five-minute firework show at Zhongxiao Bridge, the Taipei City Department of Information and Tourism said.
The festival is also set to celebrate the upcoming Lovers’ Day (also known as the Qixi Festival, 七夕情人節) next week. The Taipei City Government is to join forces with Taipei Xia Hai City God Temple (霞海城隍廟) and distribute free bookmarks and heart-shaped necklaces that symbolize happiness at 6pm, Taipei City Department of Information and Tourism division chief Hsiao Chun-chieh (蕭君杰) said.
The festival attracted 500,000 visitors last year.
Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin (郝龍斌) said the city expected to attract an even larger crowd this year. The festival will is to end with a 20-minute display starting at 8:30pm.
Traffic police are to enforce special traffic control measures around Yanping N Road, Kaifeng Street and Huanghe N Road from 6:30pm to 11pm on Saturday. The division advises those planning to attend the event to use public transport.
Shuttle buses are to be available at Taipei Main Station East Exit 3 and Shuanglian MRT Station Exit 2.
