As more than 200,000 people are expected to stream into Kenting (墾丁) on the southern tip of Pingtung County for the five-day Kenting Music Festival from Wednesday to Sunday, the county government is urging those planning to attend to take public transportation.
In past years, the music festival has attracted more than 100,000 fans. Local police think this year’s festival will attract even more because it has been extended by one day.
There will be eight concerts — mostly from Thursday to Saturday — including the outdoor Spring Scream at Eluanpi National Park (鵝鑾鼻公園), the Spring Wave Music and Art Festival, and Spring Wave Electronic Music concert at Wuliting Airport and the Moon Light Foam Party at South Bay (南灣). There are also indoor events planned at various resort hotels in the area.
As usual, firecrackers and alcohol will not be permitted on the Little Bay (小灣) beaches, and people will not be allowed to say on the beaches past midnight, police officials said.
In addition to popular singers, more than 260 independent bands — including 60 foreign groups — will perform during the festival.
Kenting Express Line tickets and Kaohsiung to Kenting combined tickets, sold by Taiwan High Speed Rail Co, can be purchased at 7-Eleven ibon kiosks nationwide.
Several highway bus companies, including King Bus, Ubus, Ho-hsin Bus and Aloha Bus, are also providing special tickets for the festival.
