Emissions cut planned: EPA
The government will implement a mechanism to reduce carbon emissions, in line with conclusions reached at two international meetings on world climate change, the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) said on Sunday. A new agreement on global climate change and on establishing a whole new mechanism by 2015 was adopted at the international conferences, called the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol and the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, held in Doha, Qatar, from Nov. 26 to Dec. 8, the EPA said. It calls on governments worldwide to take immediate action and put forward solutions to climate change to slow down global warming. Aside from setting up a new mechanism to verify and manage carbon emissions, the nation plans to strengthen cooperation with other countries on climate change issues, promote education and training and raise public awareness about the issue, the EPA said.
