A 10-year-old boy was found dead in a restroom of an arcade store in Greater Tainan yesterday morning. A suspect was arrested in an Internet cafe by nightfall, the Greater Tainan Police department said.
The boy, surnamed Fang (方), was found by the arcade’s cleaning crew in a toilet stall. The walls and the doors of the stall were covered in blood, the police said.
An autopsy on Fang’s body showed that a single-edged blade had slit through his windpipe and carotid artery, the police added.
Greater Tainan Police Department’s Sixth Precinct deputy chief Liu Yi-tsung (劉怡宗) said that after viewing the security footage, they found that a man, surnamed Tseng (曾), aged between 20 and 30, went into the restroom at the same time as Fang.
Less than five minutes later the man walked out of the room alone and left the building, the police said.
After cross-checking the footage, the police listed the 29-year-old Tseng as a potential suspect and found him in an Internet cafe in the northern parts of the city later yesterday, Liu said.
According to the police, Tseng said in preliminary investigation that he had committed the murder, but had not indicated why.
