Taiwan and China are scheduled to hold a two-day industrial and economic cooperation forum in Hsinchu on Wednesday, which is to be used as a channel to promote exchanges in industry, academic and government circles across the Taiwan Strait, officials from the Ministry of Economic Affairs said yesterday.

The forum, which will be the second held between Taiwan and China, is designed to forge closer cooperation in cross-strait industrial development to take on challenges in the global market, the ministry said.

The ministry said the forum would be convened by Vice Minister of Economics Woody Duh (杜紫軍) and Zhang Xiaoqiang (張曉強), vice chairman of China’s National Development and Reform Commission.

Many industrial and economic development specialists in Taiwan and China will be invited to the forum to exchange opinions about how to cultivate bilateral industrial relations, strengthen cooperation and facilitate industrial upgrades, the ministry said.

The experts who will attend the conference include San Gee (單驥), a professor at the Graduate Institute of Industrial Economics at Taiwan’s National Central University, and Shi Yaodong (石耀東), deputy head of research and development of industrial economy with the Development Research Center under China’s State Council.
