Taiwan Mobile Corp, one of the nation’s largest telecoms service providers, announced on Sunday the winners of its popular Myfone creative contest.

The contest, which drew 50,000 entires, comprised three categories: text literature, original ring tone composition and microfilm. The last one, a new addition this year, captured a lot of attention. A total of 201 films were submitted in the category, 101 of which were from students.

The competitors were tasked with shooting a video on the theme of “touching people’s hearts.”

The winning video, titled Run, was made by five students and depicted the major events in a man’s life in a three-minute film — from attending school to performing military service, getting married, having a family, and, finally living in retirement.

It shows a young man rushing to school, but walking more slowly toward the end as he gets older, said Juan Shu-hsiang (阮淑祥), an official at the Taiwan Mobile Foundation.

Juan said the video was a reminder for people to seize the moment and treasure what they have.

The runner-up was a video that portrays love’s sweet and bitter moments, while the third prize was shared by three films.

The first prize came with a cash award of NT$300,000, while the second and third-place winners received NT$150,000 and NT$50,000 respectively.

The contest, first held in 2007, aims to encourage young people to stretch their imagination and show their creativity through the Internet and mobile phones — two of the most popular tools used by young people.

The award-winning works from all the categories can be seen on the contest’s official Web site and on Taiwan Mobile’s mobile TV and online video streaming platform, as well as other print media.

The contest brought together participants aged between 14 and 70 from all walks of life — from retired teachers, engineers and soldiers, to medical professionals and students.
