Examination Minister Lai Feng-wei (賴峰偉) has tendered his resignation after causing a public uproar by making a sexually suggestive remark at a party last month. The Presidential Office accepted his resignation yesterday.

During a weiya (尾牙), or lunar year-end party, Lai said: “[You] have to feel me, feel me, deeper, lower,” as his colleagues were reaching in a raffle box for prizes.

Lai on Sunday held a press conference apologizing for using sexually suggestive language at the party. He said the incident was just a case of misspeaking after having slightly too much to drink.

After talking to Examination Yuan President John Kuan (關中) at noon yesterday, Kuan agreed to forward Lai’s resignation to President Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) because the power to appoint the Examination minister falls within the purview of the president.

Ma was quoted by the Presidential Office as saying that he respected Lai’s decision to step down and approved his resignation.
