The 2007 Taipei Dadaocheng Fireworks and Music Festival, which was postponed because of Typhoon Sepat, will begin at 7pm tonight at Dadaocheng wharf, and the Taipei City Government invited city residents to come along and enjoy pop music and a 30-minute fireworks display.

About 20,000 fireworks of various shapes, such as hearts, jellyfish, waterfalls and bouquets, will be set off between 8pm and 8:30pm tonight between floodgates 3 and 5 of the Danshui River, Taipei's Department of Information said.

Taipei County residents can also enjoy the firework show in Sanchong (三重), as the Taipei County Government joined forces with the city government to hold the event.

Before the firework show several singers, including Nan Quan Mama and competitors from the TV show "One Million Stars," will begin music performances at 7pm, commissioner of the department Yang Hsiao-tung (羊曉東) said.

Residents will be able to watch the display from either shore of the Danshui River, on the deck of ferries sailing along the Blue Highway, or from the tops of tall buildings, Yang said.

Taipei's Department of Transportation urged participants to use public transportation to minimize traffic congestion.

Overall measures include the banning or regulating of vehicles entering or exiting Watergate 3, Watergate 5 (starting at 3pm), and Watergate 1 (starting at 5pm). In addition, Capital Bus Company will also be offering two dedicated shuttle services to transport passengers to and from the festival venue starting at Exit 2 of Shuanglian MRT Station.

Traffic regulations will be enforced in the area extending eastward to Chongqing North Road; southward to Zhongxiao West Road; westward to Huanhe North Road; and northward to Minzu West Road between 6:30pm and 11pm.

Traffic control will also be in force on the slow lane and motorcycle lanes of Zhongxiao Bridge. Pedestrians will be prohibited from using the bridge between 7:30pm and 8:30pm; while vehicles are prohibited from using the bridge between 7:50pm and 8:10pm, the traffic department said.
