The Taiwan Solidarity Union's (TSU) Central Executive Committee yesterday decided to initiate a three-day candidate registration period for the party's chairmanship election starting from today.

After concluding a committee meeting, TSU Secretary-General Lin Chih-chia (林志嘉) said the party had decided to initiate its chairman re-election mechanism after Huang Kun-huei (黃昆輝), a TSU member and secretary-general of the private pro-independence think tank Taiwan Advocates, said on Sunday that he was considering running for the election.

Huang is considered the most appropriate candidate by most members of the committee.

If only one person registers as a candidate, he or she will have to win affirmation from over half of the TSU's Central Executive Committee members.

But if more than one person competes for the chairmanship, a primary will be held in mid-May.
