The Los Angeles-based Formosa Foundation announced on Tuesday that President Chen Shui-bian (陳水扁) will give a keynote speech at a dinner banquet after an international conference sponsored by the foundation in Taipei on Monday.

Foundation chairman Donald Lee (李世滋) said that the foundation is honored to have Chen serve as a keynote speaker, adding that "we are very humbled by the personal sacrifices President Chen and his family have made for Taiwan's democracy and human rights."

Peng Ming-min (彭明敏), senior advisor to Chen, and June Teufel Dreyer, a professor and head of the political science department at the University of Miami, will also speak at the banquet.

Dreyer also serves as commissioner of the US-China Economic and Security Review Commission, which presented a report to the US Congress in June, in which it suggested revising the long-standing "one China" policy of the US, saying the policy is no longer in the US' interests.

Participants at the conference include prominent US experts John Tkack, Shelly Rigger, Daniel Lynch and Ross Munro.
