THSRC users can choose window or aisle seats online

Starting tomorrow, people booking tickets for high-speed rail trains online can choose window or aisle seats, just like when booking flights, Taiwan High Speed Rail Corp (THSRC) said yesterday.

The high-speed rail operator said that the service applies to both standard-class and business-class cabins, adding that travelers booking standard-class cabin tickets can indicate their seat preference on the Web page.

The ticketing system can then assign seats based on the passenger’s preference and seating availability at the time, it said.

Travelers booking business-class cabin tickets can request a change of seats after they finish making the reservations, the company said, adding that they would be shown a seating chart of the cabin and are allowed to choose from the available seats.

However, they cannot change their seats if they have already received tickets or purchased tickets on the day of travel.

The company said that window and isle seating options would also be made available to travelers booking tickets at convenience stores, starting on Wednesday next week.

Mobile phone users will also be able to book seats using the company’s T-Express app on a feature that is expected to be released soon, the company said.

The company also said that the ticketing system would assign seats to passengers based on their preference when there are sufficient empty seats on the train.

The system would randomly assign seats to passengers if the train is almost full or does not have a passenger’s seating preference, it said.
