The Changhua County Government and Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) are planning to erect an outdoor sculpture in front of the Dacun Railway Station to highlight Dacun Township’s (大村) role as a grape production hub.
An agreement was reached by Changhua County Commissioner Wei Ming-ku (魏明谷), Dacun Township Mayor Yu Sheng (游盛) and TRA officials following a visit to the station earlier this month.
“Changhua is the prime production center of grapes in Taiwan, and Dacun is the major production hub for the fruit in Changhua,” Wei said.
“The Dacun Railway Station is the key transportation facility in the township, and more than 300,000 people pass it every day,” making it the best venue to promote the county’s grapes, he said.
The sculpture is to be created on a grape theme and set on a colorful tile base, with specially designed chairs in the form of grape figurines surrounding it, he said.
“We hope that passengers who transit through the Dacun Railway Station will appreciate the sculpture that represents the township’s pride and help promote the local grape-farming sector,” he said.
“A grape-themed sculpture will add to the Dacun Railway Station’s splendor,” said Su Chen-lin (蘇鎮霖), a TRA official in charge of operations in central Taiwan.
A group of Taiwanese-American and Tibetan-American students at Harvard University on Saturday disrupted Chinese Ambassador to the US Xie Feng’s (謝鋒) speech at the school, accusing him of being responsible for numerous human rights violations. Four students — two Taiwanese Americans and two from Tibet — held up banners inside a conference hall where Xie was delivering a speech at the opening ceremony of the Harvard Kennedy School China Conference 2024. In a video clip provided by the Coalition of Students Resisting the CCP (Chinese Communist Party), Taiwanese-American Cosette Wu (吳亭樺) and Tibetan-American Tsering Yangchen are seen holding banners that together read:

Heat advisories were in effect for nine administrative regions yesterday afternoon as warm southwesterly winds pushed temperatures above 38°C in parts of southern Taiwan, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said. Highs recorded in other areas were 38.7°C in Kaohsiung’s Neimen District (內門), 38.2°C in Chiayi City and 38.1°C in Pingtung’s Sandimen Township (三地門), CWA data showed. The spell of scorching
