ITRI launches traffic-collision avoidance system

Staff writer, with CNA

The Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) yesterday launched a new system that sends a warning signal to drivers to avoid collisions at intersections.

Most road accidents in Taiwan occur at intersections, the Hsinchu-based institute said.

The system, which displays a signal at intersections to warn drivers when a vehicle is running a red light or trying to beat a yellow light, has been installed at four intersections in Hsinchu city and county where there have been frequent accidents.

The aim is to eventually expand the use of the system to the rest of the nation, the institute said.
