Costliest hotels ranked

HOT HENGCHUN:Taipei and New Taipei City ranked second and third in hotel room rates for foreign visitors last year, a booking agency survey has found

Accomodations in Hengchun Township (恆春) in Pingtung County remain Taiwan’s priciest for foreigners, a survey by online hotel booking firm Hotels.com found.

The survey showed that foreign tourists on average spent NT$4,819 per night for hotel rooms in Hengchun last year, up 5 percent from a year earlier.

Hengchun serves as the gateway to Kenting National Park, the southernmost national park in Taiwan.

Taipei and New Taipei City ranked second and third in hotel prices last year.

According to the survey, foreign visitors to Taipei spent an average of NT$3,758 on their hotel stay per night last year, down 2 percent from a year earlier, while hotels in New Taipei City charged foreign patrons NT$3,339 per night in 2014, up 2 percent from 2013.

The least expensive hotels for foreigners are in Keelung, with an average room rate of NT$2,104 per night last year, down 6 percent from the prior year.

The average price for Tainan hotel rooms fell by 8 percent year-on-year to NT$3,268 per night last year, the survey showed.

In addition, the average room rates in Taichung and Kaohsiung fell 10 percent to NT$2,544 and NT$2,422 respectively.

Data compiled by the Tourism Bureau showed that foreign arrivals to Taiwan last year totaled 9.91 million, up from 8.02 million recorded the prior year.
