China Air giving away tickets as photo contest prize

Staff writer, with CNA

China Airlines (CAL), Taiwan’s largest air carrier, is holding a photo contest, offering a prize of two tickets to any of its destinations to the person who submits the best picture and description of a sunrise.

The competition is part of CAL’s promotion of a special dawn-chasing flight to Okinawa, Japan, on New Year’s Day.

The airline said sunrise photographs may be submitted online from now until Friday next week to a special contest site and must include a description and a New Year’s wish.

The winner, who will be announced on Jan. 14, is to be given two round-trip tickets to any CAL destination, the airline said.

The photographs that place second to 10th are to be entered into a second competition judged by visitors to the Web site, and two return tickets will be offered to the winner of that contest, CAL said.

All nine contestants in that round would receive a calendar, it said.

CAL has launched the contest to spotlight its CI 2015 flight, which is scheduled to depart Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport at 5:20am on Thursday, New Year’s Day, for Okinawa.

En route, the Boeing 777-800 jet is to fly over Jiqi beach in Hualien County at about 6:19am, then turn northward to Naha Airport in Okinawa, where it is scheduled to arrive at 9:05am local time.

The idea is to allow the 158 passengers on the fully booked flight to see the first rays of sunlight in the New Year before anyone on the ground, according to the airline.

The photo competition is being hosted on the Chinese-language Web site fv38.com/95461.
