Staff writer, with CNA

With the wedding business now an industry worth NT$10 billion (US$33.8 million) or more per year, the Workforce Development Agency is to offer training classes for those who are interested in the business later this year.

Personalized services, including wedding invitations, candy and floral design, have become more popular with engaged couples in recent years.

The Ministry of Labor agency said that since most weddings take place on weekends or holidays, it may be a good choice for those who want to have a second source of income.

In order to promote competitiveness, the agency is working with private job skill training centers to offer a variety of courses, including a design class for wedding presents and gems, floral designs for wedding venues, bridal makeup and wedding photography and postproduction.

Those who sign up for the agency’s courses could receive subsidies for tuition for up to NT$70,000 for a period of three years.

Qualified students who attended at least three quarters of the classes and receive a diploma could receive a subsidy for 80 percent of their tuition.

Some students may qualify for 100 percent tuition subsidies.

The agency said applicants must first sign up for membership at taiwanjobs.gov.tw.
