Representative to the US Shen Lyu-shun (沈呂巡) on Thursday encouraged academics to apply for the Taiwan Fellowship Program, which he said has helped boost Taiwan’s academic standing in the world.
The program was launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2010 to award foreign experts and academics interested in conducting advanced research at academic institutions in Taiwan for studies relating to Taiwan, cross-strait relations, China, the Asia-Pacific region and Sinology, Shen said.
The fellowship includes monthly stipends of between NT$50,000 and NT$60,000 for professors, associate professors, assistant professors, post-doctoral researchers and doctoral candidates, along with a round-trip, economy-class airplane ticket. The term ranges from three to 12 months.
Shen encouraged anyone interested in applying to visit the ministry’s Web site or Facebook page to apply online, or to visit Taiwan’s representative offices.
The program has attracted 346 academics over the past three years, mostly from the US, Japan, South Korea and Germany, he said.

No direct relationship between the food poisoning death and the restaurant was established, as no food from the day of the incident was available for testing and no other customers had reported health complaints, it said, adding that the investigation is ongoing.
