Reward for reporting eTag system errors

By Shelley Shan  /  Staff reporter

Drivers on the nation’s freeways are being encouraged to report any errors they discover in their eTag toll accounts, with a reward of NT$500 being offered for each questionable transaction submitted.

National Freeway Bureau Deputy Director-General Wu Mu-fu (吳木富) said that drivers can check their eTag transactions through the bureau’s Web page or its mobile phone application.

If they find any errors, such as a double charge for a single trip, they can file complaints at the bureau with evidence to show the error, he said.

Should the bureau verify a claim and find that the company is indeed at fault for overcharging customers, Wu said the company would reimburse drivers double the overcharged amount.

The driver will also be awarded NT$500 for identifying a problem with the electronic toll collection (ETC) system, he said.

Peng Huan-ju (彭煥儒), chief of the bureau’s business division, said the measure is to take effect next week, adding that the exact time and details would be announced at another time.

Drivers can file complaints by clicking on the ETC icon on the bureau’s home page, Peng said, adding that those who cannot use the Internet can mail details of the disputed charge and evidence to the bureau or call 1968.
