Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) hopeful for Taipei mayor, Wellington Koo (顧立雄), is set to unveil his campaign theme “GOOD TAIPEI+” today.
It is expected to emphasize the capital’s potential to be a great city with its abundant resources, exceptional geographical condition and first-rate residents, the lawyer’s aides said yesterday.
Koo’s campaign team said Taipei has never had a mayor “with great vision, who has stuck by his or her principles and who has the competence to lead the city and its residents.”
The team said Koo is determined to run for mayor to give the city the “winning points” it deserves, represented by the “+” sign in his campaign.
According to the Koo team, the “Good” in “GOOD TAIPEI+” also rhymes with Koo’s surname, which in Mandarin means “to take care of.”
“Wellington Koo” therefore means Wellington will look after things, and “Good Taipei” means he will take care of Taipei, the team said.
His team was said that Koo is a political novice and therefore as a resident, can change the city.
The sub-theme of the campaign is “Start afresh: Make Taipei unique,” Koo’s campaign team said.
Koo’s childcare+ policy would introduce universal childcare and extend evening childcare services so that “the city government takes care of the city’s young children,” the team said.
Under human rights+, same-sex marriage would be legalized; under animal protection+, residents would be encouraged to adopt, rather than buy, pets to reduce the number of stray animals euthanized, the team said.
The priority of residence+ is to rein in high property prices, to increase the share of social housing and expand the rental market to make city living affordable, the team said.
