Temperatures set to drop
Temperatures in northern and northeastern areas are expected to drop significantly over the next few days, with daytime highs falling by 5oC to 6oC due to stronger seasonal winds, the Central Weather Bureau said yesterday. Lows in those areas may hover at about 20oC until Thursday, the bureau said. Central and southern areas can expect temperatures of 22oC to 30oC, as the effects of the winds are unlikely to extend significantly to those parts of the country, according to forecasters. The seasonal winds may also bring showers to northern and northeastern Taiwan, while other parts of the country can expect mostly cloudy weather, the bureau said.
Drum group to tour
A Tainan-based drumming group will stage a series of shows in Dubai, India and Indonesia, starting later this week, in an effort to promote cultural exchanges with those nations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said. The Ten Drum Art Percussion Group will go on the performance tour from tomorrow until Oct. 29, the ministry said. The group, which was shortlisted for Best Traditional World Music Album at the 2010 Grammy Awards, is dedicated to promoting traditional Taiwanese drum music. Their performances are expected to help strengthen Taiwan’s ties with the United Arab Emirates, India and Indonesia, as Taiwan seeks to deepen relations with Muslim countries and emerging markets, the ministry said. It will be the first time that the group has performed in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates and India, the ministry said. Founded in 2000, the group has staged more than 5,000 shows in 18 countries, the ministry said.
