Formosan sika deer given to Beijing as thank-you has fawn

Staff writer, with CNA

A Formosan sika deer given by Taiwan to Beijing gave birth to a male fawn at Shandong Province’s Weihai Liugong Island National Park on Monday, Chinese media reported.

Both the doe and fawn are in good condition, the reports said.

It is the third time Tien Tien (點點) has given birth in China since she arrived there with her mate, Fan Sing (繁星), on April 16, 2011. The pair were given as thank-yous, along with a pair of Formosan serows, for Beijing’s giving the Taipei Zoo two giant pandas in 2008.

Tian Tian produced two fawns last year — one a male and one female, park officials said.
