Separately yesterday, Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin (郝龍斌) yesterday urged the central government to strengthen communication with local governments and the public in promoting policies such as the proposed pension reforms.
Hau said the Cabinet did not provide a copy of the reform plan to the city government until yesterday morning during the Cabinet’s weekly meeting. He added that the lack of open and transparent information about the reforms made it difficult for local governments to address labor groups’ concerns.
Hau said the central government should explain its policies to the public and allow local governments to discuss related issues with affected groups, so that the public’s voice can be heard.
