Hundreds of thousands of music fans flooded Kenting over the past four days to take part in the annual Kenting Music Festival.
More than 200,000 people made their way into the town since the five-day festival began on Wednesday, with 50,000 attending on Saturday, Kenting police said.
Enthusiastic fans endured the rain on Saturday to enjoy the outdoor Spring Scream music festival at Eluanbi National Park, as well as the outdoor Spring Wave Music and Art Festival and the Spring Wave Electronic Music concert at Wuliting Airport.
About 250 independent bands, including 60 from overseas, were scheduled to perform over the course of the five-day Spring Scream, which concluded yesterday, while the Spring Wave events on Friday and Saturday featured popular artists and electronic music groups from home and abroad.
A moonlight foam party was held at South Bay (Nanwan) and indoor events were hosted at various hotels in the area, which profited from the large crowds.
Howard Beach Resort Kenting general manager Chang Chi-kuang (張積光) said his hotel’s revenues during the festival were NT$3 million (US$100,200) higher this year than last year due to the four-day Tomb Sweeping Day holiday that began on Thursday.
The number of visitors from China and Hong Kong rose this year by about 1 to 2 percent, he added.
Meanwhile, police apprehended four people on Saturday for using or possessing illegal drugs.
Police raided a resort in South Bay at 2am and arrested three men for possession of 2.7g of ketamine and drug paraphernalia.
They later arrested a 25-year-old woman at an inn in Hengchun at 5am.
