The Presidential Office yesterday voiced concern over a TV reporter after he fell off a small bridge while covering President Ma Ying-jeou’s (馬英九) visit to Tunghai University in Greater Taichung yesterday.

Ma attended a forum at the university, where he was confronted by a student surnamed Kao (高), who held a sign reading “human rights” to protest against the government’s forceful demolition of houses in Taipei’s Huaguang Community.

The student continued his protest outside the forum by kneeling at the side of the road. As security guards and military officials tried to move the student, the FTV reporter, Lin Shang-hsien (林尚賢), fell off the bridge.

Lin was rushed to Taichung Veterans General Hospital suffering from neck injuries, but was discharged after treatment.

Ma did not comment on the incident when he left the forum. Presidential Office spokesperson Lee Chia-fei (李佳霏) said later that Ma was concerned about Lin’s injury.

“We’ve sent staff members to visit the reporter at the hospital and the doctor said X-rays revealed that Lin had not suffered serious injury,” she said.
