Representative to the US King claims reports are incorrect

By Jake Chung  /  Staff writer, with CNA

Representative to the US King Pu-tsung (金溥聰) yesterday issued a statement claiming that media reports last week on his and his wife’s property declaration were incorrect.

Using civil servants’ property declarations data provided by the Control Yuan, media reported that King and his wife, Tina Chou (周慧婷), had added a piece of realty in New Taipei City’s (新北市) Sindian District (新店), with an area of 2,000 ping (7,005.82m2), and that their debt from investments had increased to NT$40 million (US$1.3 million) in comparison with the NT$5.8 million from King’s last property declaration eight years ago.

However, in the statement issued in Washington, King said the report failed to take into consideration the ownership of all other landowners on the plot of land concerned.

The land was divided into two lots, one of 1,382.97m2 and the other of 5,622.85m2, totaling 7,005.82m2, King said.

He only owned 90 units out of a total land area of 10,000 units, or the equivalent of 19.5 ping, King added.

“I do not own all 2,000 ping of the land the media reports mentioned,” King said.

In addition, King traded his old car in favor of a Mercedes-Benz, valued at NT$1.6 million, while his savings have increased by NT$3 million and now total NT$6.7 million, according to the property declaration.

He also sold stock with a total value of NT$1.3 million.
