A male college student yesterday accused popular TV variety show host Jacky Wu (吳宗憲) of physically assaulting him at an eatery earlier yesterday morning.

The Fu Jen Catholic University student, surnamed Chen (陳), was eating with friends at a noodle shop on Nanjing E Road in Taipei at about 5am when Wu, who Chen said appeared to be a bit drunk, entered the restaurant with Taiwanese singer Elva Hsiao (蕭亞軒), actress Cheryl Yang (楊謹華) and actor Kai Ko (柯震東), along with four assistants.

At the time, Chen’s friends were having an argument and Wu, sitting at a nearby table, yelled at them: “Why are you people so loud?”

Chen heckled back, which allegedly enraged Wu.

Wu dragged Chen out of the store, where the two started shouting at each other, said a shop owner surnamed Peng (彭), whose store is located across from the eatery.

Peng said that when he looked up again, he saw Wu swing a punch at Chen’s face.

Chen was trying to move toward Wu, but his friends kept them apart, Peng said.

The police and an ambulance arrived soon after and Chen was taken to hospital. Wu was unharmed.

At about 11am yesterday, Chen went to the Zhongzheng First Police Precint to report the case, carrying with him the injury diagnosis certification issued by the hospital, which showed him requiring four stitches to his lower lip.

Chen filed charges against Wu for assault that caused him bodily harm. He accused Yang of making threatening remarks, saying that Yang had said: “Don’t try to make a big thing out of this.”

Zhongzheng First Police Precinct said it has transferred the case to the Songshan precinct and it is now being handled by Songshan precinct’s criminal investigation unit.
