A limited edition of EasyCards designed to welcome the next lunar year — the Year of the Snake in the Chinese zodiac — will go on sale tomorrow.

This marks the ninth year Taipei EasyCard Corp has issued commemorative editions incorporating one of the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac.

The special-edition card will go on sale starting 10am tomorrow at the Metro Souvenir Shop at Taipei Main Station and the Capital Art Center on Renai Road in Taipei, Taipei EasyCard said.

The 1,000 special-edition EasyCard sets, priced at NT$1,200 (US$41) each, feature two paintings of snakes by renowned artist Max Liu (劉其偉).

One has a blue and gray background, with the serpent in black and orange, representing warm flames during the cold winter. The snake is depicted embracing two eggs, symbolizing the nurturing of new life for the future.

The other card has the snake colored in intermittent dark and light jade green, with red and yellow to highlight its slithering motion and golden rays to welcome the arrival of spring.

Each set is numbered and comes with a guarantee signed by Taipei EasyCard Corp chairman Chang Chia-sheng (張家生) on an embossed certificate, Taipei EasyCard officials said.

Thirty-five “auspicious numbers” will be available to buyers on a first-come, first-serve basis, including numbers such as “0001,” “0168,” “0888” and “1000,” officials said.
