The Greater Kaohsiung Government is scheduled to hold 10 job fairs next week offering a total of 2,773 openings, mainly in the restaurant and high-tech sectors, the city government’s Labor Affairs Bureau said yesterday.
Among the employers that are to participate in the job fairs from tomorrow to Saturday, DinTaiFung, the world-renowned dumpling restaurant, is to be present, as it is seeking employees, including cashiers, chefs and dishwashers, the bureau said.
According to the bureau, DinTaiFung is offering a starting salary of NT$38,000 a month for cashiers with college degrees, NT$32,000 for dishwashers and NT$50,000 for chefs.
Chen Shih-wei (陳石圍), director of the bureau’s Training and Employment Center, said DinTaiFung has started a training program for its employees as part of an expansion plan, with the restaurant operator planning to set up outlets in the southern city.
In addition to DinTaiFung, a fast food restaurant chain operator is offering a starting salary of NT$40,000 for managers and NT$30,000 for junior mangers, while waiters and waitresses working on an hourly basis are to be offered between NT$103 and NT$125 per hour.
Chen said these large restaurant operators appear more willing to offer higher renumeration to recruit talent than some employers in the semiconductor industry, as well as other electronics businesses based in the south.
According to the bureau, the starting salaries for workers on the production lines in some high-tech firms as well as for engineers who hold high school or college degrees range between NT$20,000 and NT$30,000 per month.
