A National United University student surnamed Lin (林), who is suspected of raping and murdering a coed from the same institution, was taken in for questioning yesterday afternoon.
The victim, also surnamed Lin (林), was found dead on Friday afternoon in her room and appeared to have been stabbed more than 10 times. There were also indications that she had been raped. A fruit knife which may have been the murder weapon was left at the scene while water was used on the body and the floor in an attempt to clean up the crime scene, police said.
According to a police investigation, the victim was murdered about 5pm on Thursday, but her body was only discovered a day later.
The police initially placed a professor, who was said to have been involved in a relationship with the victim, on the list of suspects. However, he was later cleared.
Meanwhile, a fellow student, who lived in the same apartment building as the victim, became the prime suspect, with the police investigation suggesting he was seen leaving around the time of the murder, returning a while later time and leaving at 9am the next morning.
He was quoted by his landlord as saying that he was going to school to study, but was out of touch afterward.
Police found the suspect on the university campus yesterday afternoon and he was still being interrogated as of press time.
