Special smartphone app to be available to EasyCard users

Staff Writer, with CNA

Users of the millions of pre-paid EasyCards in Taipei will be able to download an app on their smartphones later this month to learn about discounts offered by stores in association with EasyCard Corp, which issues the cards.

The app will be available free of charge on the Android Market Web site, EasyCard Corp said in a recent statement.

The app will provide details on discounts and indicate the location of the 12,000 restaurants, cafes and other stores that have forged partnerships with the firm.

At present, EasyCard has issued 24 million cards that can be used on the MRT system, the public bus system and in some taxis. They can also be used to buy goods at convenience stores or pay parking fees in municipal parking lots.

In future, the app will also detail bus and train timetables and fares, as well as available parking spaces in the city, the firm said.

The company will also make the app available through Apple’s App Store and the software markets of the nation’s three largest telecoms providers in late May.
