Staff writer, with CNA

A promotion campaign will be launched to encourage more people from North America to visit, after the number of visitors from the continent increased by 9 percent so far this year, Tourism Bureau Deputy Director-General Wayne Liu (劉喜臨) said on Tuesday in Los Angeles.

The number of North American travelers so far this year has totaled about 412,000, including 360,000 from the US, and the US visitors represented a rise of 8.98 percent from last year, he said.

The bureau will also provide 10,000 US$100 discount coupons to travelers who book flights or hotels through specific travel agencies or airlines, Liu said.

A section on Taiwan will also be set up on the Travelocity Web site, he said.
