Yunlin County Commissioner Su Chih-fen (蘇治芬) of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) was billed as the poorest among the nation’s local heads in terms of her personal assets, with a debt of more than NT$20 million (US$620,308), according to the mayor and county commissioners’ assets declarations publicized by the Control Yuan on Friday.
Taoyuan County Commissioner John Wu (吳志揚) of the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) ranked as the wealthiest county commissioner, with an estimated NT$100 million in personal assets.
According to the information from the Control Yuan, Su and her husband, Huang Wu-hsiung (黃武雄), a retired mathematics professor, possessed NT$3.17 million in cash, an apartment in Taipei County’s Sindien (新店), stocks worth NT$30,000, and a 10-year-old Toyota vehicle, while their debt totaled NT$20 million.
Wu and his wife declared bank deposits of NT$49.82 million and NT$21.44 million in securities, NT$8 million in life insurance policies and several plots of land and buildings in Taipei City and Taoyuan County’s Jhongli (中壢).
Compared with Wu’s assets declaration publicized by the Control Yuan in June last year, when he was a lawmaker, the couple’s cash deposits increased by approximately NT$20 million.
Meanwhile, the latest report from the Control Yuan showed that Taipei City Mayor Hau Lung-bin (郝龍斌) and his wife Kao Lung-sen’s (高閬仙) bank deposits decreased by NT$7 million. The report also showed that Kao recently purchased a new BMW vehicle for NT$1.5 million.
Nantou County Deputy Commissioner Chen Tze-ching (陳志清) of the KMT declared ownership of NT$71 million in bank deposits, and several plots of land and buildings in Taipei City, Taichung City and Nantou County.
Tainan Mayor Hsu Tain-tsair (許添財) of the DPP declared NT$1.6 million in cash and a house in New York.
Chiayi Mayor Huang Ming-hui (黃敏惠) of the KMT declared NT$12 million in bank deposits, NT$14 million in securities, more than NT$10 million in life insurance and estates in Taipei City.
Taitung Commissioner Justin Huang (黃健庭) and Keelung City Mayor Chang Tong-rong (張通榮), both of the KMT, declared that their bank deposits had increased by NT$14 million and NT$6 million respectively compared with their reported deposits two years ago.

Heat advisories were in effect for nine administrative regions yesterday afternoon as warm southwesterly winds pushed temperatures above 38°C in parts of southern Taiwan, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said.
