Wu Shu-jen wants frozen funds to go to charity, not state

Former first lady Wu Shu-jen (吳淑珍) said yesterday that she would agree to have the US$21 million currently frozen in a family Swiss bank account remitted to Taiwan if it were to be managed by a third party for charitable purposes rather than being turned over to the treasury.

She said in a written statement that the money deposited in a Swiss bank account opened by her son and daughter-in-law came from “legal political contributions” collected during her husband’s time in office from 2000 to 2008.
