Parts of Zhongxiao W Road around Taipei Railway Station, as well as Minquan W Road and Songjiang Road will be closed to traffic during the weekend because of road resurfacing work, the Taipei City Government said yesterday.
The city government said it would close two lanes of Zhongxiao W Road between Gongyuan Road and Guanqian Road until 6am on Monday for the work, which is part of the city’s “Smooth Road” project. Minquan W Road between Huanhe W Road and Yanping N Road, as well as Songjiang Road between Minsheng E Road and Siping Street will be closed until tomorrow for the work, the city government said.
Fang Yang-ning (方仰寧), director of Taipei City Police Department’s traffic division, called on drivers to use alternate routes during the period.
Meanwhile, flexible traffic measures will be enforced on Ketagalan Boulevard and the area surrounding Taipei Railway Station starting today at 9am and lasting until 10pm to make way for a gay pride parade.
The parade will start at Ketagalan Boulevard and pass through Gongyuan Road, Chongqing S Road, Zhonghua Road and Zhongshan S Road before returning to Ketagalan Boulevard.
Fang said police expected serious traffic congestion around Taipei Railway Station and adjacent areas, and that the public should avoid driving in the area and take the MRT instead.
The city’s Department of Transportation said several buses would be rerouted because of the construction work and the parade, and passengers should visit the department’s public transportation office Web site or calls its service hotline at 1999 for the latest bus information.
