A German engineer who is the husband of a Taiwanese woman won a NT$300,000 prize yesterday from the Tourism Bureau for being the 3 millionth tourist to visit Taiwan this year.
The 47-year-old, Georg Graditz, arrived at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport that day along with his family and two friends from Germany for a 15-day pleasure trip.
Graditz has been married to a woman from Taipei for several years and they have a son.
After learning that he was the 3-millionth visitor, Graditz could hardly contain his surprise and excitement, repeatedly saying: “I’m so lucky, so lucky!”
In addition to NT$300,000 added to his credit card balance, Graditz also received a commemorative medal and souvenirs.
Graditz’s wife, surnamed Liu (劉), said they would use the money to travel to a number of scenic spots around the country and for shopping for local specialty food and organic products. She said what is left would be donated toward post-Typhoon Morakot reconstruction projects.
