Chinese film about civil war will not be censored

AP, WITH STAFF WRITER , HONG KONG

Taiwan won’t censor the political content in China’s upcoming propaganda epic about the civil war, the Government Information Office (GIO) said yesterday.

Still, The Founding of a Republic won’t be released in Taiwan until next year at the earliest because the annual quota of 10 Chinese films has been filled.

Frank Chen (陳志寬), director of the GIO’s Department of Motion Pictures, said in a telephone interview that film officials would not censor the movie for political content, despite its sensitive subject, because Taiwan is a democracy.
