The Xinyi Sports Center — the eighth district sports center in Taipei City — will open for a five-day trial period on Thursday, allowing the public to use facilities at the center free of charge.
The center, located on Songching Road near Taipei 101 Mall, was completed in December last year. The trial operation period from Thursday to May 25 will give the public an opportunity to use the facilities for free before it is officially launched on May 28.
FACILITIES
Taipei City’s Public Works Department Commissioner Huang Hsi-hsung (黃錫薰) said the seven-floor building housed facilities including an archery range, a dance studio, a golf practice range, a fitness center and an indoor swimming pool.
Situated in the city’s most expensive area, the Xinyi Sports Center also offered users the luxury of enjoying great views of the Taipei 101 Mall and Elephant Mountain (象山) while exercising, he said.
Establishing sports centers in each of the city’s 12 municipal districts was a major project initiated under former Taipei mayor Ma Ying-jeou’s (馬英九) administration to promote sports and public health.
REMAINING CENTERS
The chief engineer of Taipei City’s New Construction Office, Lin Chih-feng (林志峰), said the city government would open its ninth sports center in Songshan District in July.
Lin said each of the 12 sports centers cost between NT$300 million (US$9 million) and NT$500 million to build. The remaining three sports centers in Da-an, Datung and Wenshan districts will open to the public next year, he said.
Facility hours during the trial period are from 8am to 6pm. For more information about the center, call 02-8786-1911 or visit the Taipei Sports Office’s Web site at tpg.tms.gov.tw/en_index.php.
