Five months into President Ma Ying-jeou¡¦s (°¨^¤E) term of office, the English Web site of the Presidential Office still had Chen Shui-bian (³¯¤ô«ó) and Annette Lu (§f¨q½¬) listed as the president and vice president as of yesterday.
The embarrassing mistake came at a time when many foreign visitors are expected to check out the Web site for information ahead of the Double Ten national day celebrations on Friday.
After viewers click on buttons labeled as ¡§President Chen¡¨ and ¡§Vice President Lu¡¨, they are taken to the biographies and photographs of Ma and Vice President Vincent Siew (¿½¸Uªø) respectively.
In response to the Taipei Times¡¦ query, Tsai Chung-li (½²¥ò§), director of the Public Affairs Department of the Presidential Office, yesterday attributed the blunder to ¡§technical negligence¡¨ that happened during the transitional period, adding that they would fix the problem right away. The mistake was corrected later last night.
Tsai said the Web site was under reconstruction and managed by two different units. While the Chinese Web site is managed by the Academia Sinica, the English page is managed by a company under the supervision of the Presidential Office¡¦s First Bureau.
Tsai said the office had decided to let the Academia Sinica take over the management of the English Web site and redesign it, with the project beginning about a month ago and scheduled to be completed by January.
