Bureau to set record with mass wedding beach bash

    By Shelley Shan
    STAFF REPORTER
    Wednesday, Jun 18, 2008, Page 2

A total of 170 couples will hold a joint wedding on the beach at Linshanbi (Åï¤s»ó), near Baishawan (¥Õ¨FÆW), Taipei County, on Sunday.

The event will set a record as the nation¡¦s largest wedding held on a beach.

The four-hour wedding is a joint venture between the Tourism Bureau¡¦s North Coast and Guanyinshan National Scenic Area Administration and the Taipei County Government.

Forty of the couples are from abroad, including the territories of Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau and Australia.

In addition to the ceremony, organizers have planned a series of activities, such as a group photo shoot, a tea party and fireworks.

Steven Kuo Su (³¢Ä¬Àé¬v), Tourism Bureau deputy director-general, said yesterday the Scenic Area Administration of the North Coast had been hosting similar events for three years, inviting couples to take wedding photos at scenic spots. This had drawn more than 1,000 couples from around the country and overseas, he said.

Kuo Su said the Council for Economic Planning and Development had also made its ¡§north coast experience¡¨ promotions an important case study for plans to increase the numbers of tourists from overseas.

Taking wedding photos with beautiful scenery in the background is not just popular among young people, he said, adding that he and his wife would soon celebrate their 40th anniversary and he was planning to take new wedding photos on the North Coast.

Prior to the press conference yesterday, the Tourism Bureau unveiled its list of the 10 best wedding photo spots on the north coast, which includes Twin Candlesticks Islet (Àë»OÂùÀ¬) in Jinshan (ª÷¤s), Cianshueiwan (²L¤ôÆW) in Sanjhih Township (¤TªÛ) and Baishawan (¥Õ¨FÆW) in Shihmen Township (¥Ûªù).
